FUN ABOUT TEXAS WINERIES FACT:
Some of the earliest vineyards in the US can be tracked back to Texas. Mission grapes (which are no longer found in Texas) were planted by Franciscan priests as early as the 1650s along the Rio Grande Valley. In what is today’s Texas Hill Country AVA, German immigrants also produced wines from native mustang grapes. Since then, Texas winegrowers have been able to innovate and experiment with many different varietals and winemaking styles due to the diverse nature of Texas’ terroir. Today, over 100 varieties of wine grapes can be found growing in Texas vineyards.
